Reynolds scores 23 points, Udeh has a double-double
TUCSON, Ariz. – Playing its first-ever game at Arizona, the TCU men's basketball team dropped its Big 12 Conference opener to the Wildcats, 90-81, Monday at the McKale Center.
In its first true road game of the season, the Horned Frogs (7-5, 0-1) were led by Noah Reynolds who scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting. TCU committed just eight turnovers thanks in large part to one by Reynolds, who finished with seven assists.
TCU lost the rebounding edge, 34-29, but got a big effort from Ernest Udeh Jr., who finished with a season-best 14 boards to go with10 points for his third double-double of the season.
The Horned Frogs never led, but on three separate occasions, were within one point of the Wildcats (7-5, 1-0) early in the second half. TCU trailed by three after Isaiah Manning's second 3-pointer made it 64-61 with 10:56 to play.
However, Arizona had an answer for about everything, which came in the form of senior guard Caleb Love. The preseason first team All-American scored 33 points and had seven assists and seven rebounds. He was 11-of-17 from the field to help the Wildcats shoot 57 percent from the field.
TCU will resume Big 12 play at Schollmaier Arena on Saturday to face Kansas State at 3 p.m. on CBSSN.
TEAM NOTES
- TCU moved to 2-2 all-time against Arizona.
- Jamie Dixon's record moved to 495-238 as a head coach.
- Arizona shot 56.9 percent from the field, scored 90 points and had 28 assists. All three were season highs for a TCU opponent.
- TCU's eight turnovers tied for its second fewest this season.
- TCU shot 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) from the free throw line, its best effort away from Schollmaier Arena this season.
- Caleb Love's 33 points were the most by a TCU opponent since Jesse Edwards of West Virginia scored 36 on March 6, 2024.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Noah Reynolds scored a season-high 23 points. It was his fifth game scoring in double figures this season and the third time he's led the team in points.
- Reynolds matched a season-high with seven assists to go with one turnovers. It was his sixth game with at least five assists and the sixth time he's led TCU in that category.
- Reynolds was a season-best 9-of-16 from the field and a season-best 3-for-6 from 3-point range.
- Reynolds is at 999 points for his career.
- Ernest Udeh Jr. scored 10 points and had a season-high 14 rebounds. It was the third double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.
- Udeh was 4-of-5 from the free throw line, which was a season-high for makes.
- Vasean Allette scored 18 points. It was his fifth game this season scoring in double-figures.
- Allette matched a season-high with five rebounds.
- Trazarien White was 2-of-5 from 3-point range. It was his sixth-straight game with a made 3-pointer. His double-digit scoring streak was snapped at five games as he finished with six points.
- Micah Robinson tied a season-high with 10 points.
- Robinson was 2-of-4 from 3-point range. It was his sixth-straight game with a made 3-pointer. He's had two threes in a game four times.
- Isaiah Manning was 2-of-3 from 3-point range, matching a season-high for makes. His six points were the most since scoring 10 in the season opener.
