No. 22 TCU hosts final two regular season matches
FORT WORTH – No. 22 TCU volleyball plays its final two regular season matches in Schollmaier Arena this week, welcoming Houston and Texas Tech to town. The Horned Frogs will host the Cougars on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and the Red Raiders on Friday, Nov. 22, at 6:30 p.m. CT.
TCU NOTABLES
• TCU volleyball will honor four seniors, Ashlyn Bourland, Cecily Bramschreiber, Melanie Parra and Stephanie Young, this week for their careers in purple.
• The Horned Frogs are eying their most wins in a single season in the Jason Williams Era and the most since 2015 (19).
• After recording 13 blocks and moving into a tie for eighth on TCU's top 10 all-time blocks list, Sarah Sylvester was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
• Setter Lily Nicholson is 20 kills shy of becoming the eighth Horned Frog in program history to record 1,000 assists in a single season. The sophomore ranks 17th nationally this year with 10.77 assists per set.
• With 33 kills last week, Jalyn Gibson recorded her 800th career kill.
• Melanie Parra is one of three Power 4 players in the country with at least 500 points this season (Emily Londot, Ohio State, and Raina Terry, Illinois).
• Parra is the first player in Division I women's volleyball history to win back-to-back AVCA/GameChanger Player of the Week honors (Sept. 10 & 17).
• With a win over Iowa State on Nov. 1, Jason Williams secured his 50th career win to become the fastest coach in TCU volleyball history to achieve the milestone.

SERIES HISTORY
• Wednesday's matchup marks the 14th meeting between the two programs. Houston leads the all-time series 8-5; however, the Frogs won the first meeting this season, 3-2.
• TCU leads the all-time series with Texas Tech 17-14. The Frogs have won each of the last five meetings, including one earlier this season in Lubbock, 3-0.
SCOUTING REPORT
Houston boasts an 11-13 record, including a 6-8 mark in conference play. The Cougs are coming off back-to-back sweeps against No. 20 Utah and No. 24 BYU at home and face two more ranked opponents this week in TCU and Baylor. As a team, Houston is hitting .213 this season with 12.7 kills per set. Graduate student Angela Grieve paces the attack with 3.47 kills per set, followed by senior Katie Corelli, who is averaging 2.96 kills per set on a .289 clip. The Cougars run an offense that features two setters, Annie Cooke and Rebecca Rocassin. The duo is averaging just over 10 assists per set for their team. At the service line, freshman outside Lily Baron ranks first in the Big 12 with 0.45 aces per set. Defensively, libero Kate Georgiades leads Houston and the conference with 5.06 digs per set.
Texas Tech comes into the week sitting at 13-13 overall and 5-9 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders are 4-6 in their last 10 matches and 5-6 when playing on the road this season. As a team, Texas Tech is hitting at a .198 mark. Graduate transfer Mia Wesley leads the Tech attack with 313 kills on the season so far (3.33 per set). Running an offense with two setters, Katelyn Cochran and Hanna Borer combine for 11.7 assists per set. Defensively, the Red Raiders rank fourth in the conference with 15.8 digs per set, led by libero Maddie Correa with 4.02. They also boast one of the better blocks in the conference, ranking in the top half with 2.2 per set.
ALL EYES ON PARRA
• TCU senior outside hitter Melanie Parra was named a semifinalist for the AVCA's 2024 Division I Player of the Year Award presented by Nike Volleyball on Nov. 13.
• The AVCA's highest honor, the recipient is chosen by a committee of head coaches for each collegiate level.
• The list of semifinalists includes 14 players from 11 schools, featuring some of the top talent in the country.
• Earlier this season, Parra was named to the inaugural watch list for the award, which is presented to the nation's top volleyball player.
SENIOR SENDOFF
• This week, TCU will celebrate the careers of seniors Ashlyn Bourland, Cecily Bramschreiber, Melanie Parra and Stephanie Young.
• The group has helped shift the culture of TCU volleyball and taken the program to new heights.
HOME SWEET HOME
• TCU is 12-1 at home in Schollmaier Arena this season, including each of its last six.
• The Frogs are averaging 14.8 kills per set on a .306 clip on their home court while holding opponents to a .180 mark, thanks to 2.28 blocks per set at the net.
• Seven of the 12 wins at home have been sweeps.
MEET SARAH AT THE NET
• After tallying 13 total blocks last week, Sarah Sylvester was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
• The junior added her name to the record book, cracking the top 10 in program history on Nov. 7 and continued her climb, passing Kristen Hester (288, 2008-11) and tying Yvonne Igodan (299, 2010-13) for eighth on the TCU top 10 career blocks list.
• One of the top blockers in program history, Sylvester's 1.20 career blocks per set over 72 matches and 250 sets played also ranks first in the TCU record books.
• This season, she ranks second in the Big 12 with 1.27 blocks per set.
• The junior is also one of just five athletes in the conference with triple-digit rejections this year (116).
• She recorded the 200th block of her career earlier this season against Minnesota (Sept. 7).
