Horned Frogs hold the Utes to just 267 yards of offense
SALT LAKE CITY – TCU's defense led the way to a 13-7 win at Utah on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The Horned Frogs allowed just 267 yards, a season-low against an FBS opponent. TCU recorded four sacks, including two by Devean Deal. The Utes were held to 2-of-15 on third-down conversions and 0-for-2 on fourth downs.
Leading 13-7, TCU held off the Utes on their final four possessions. The last two Utah series saw an interception by Bud Clark on a fourth-down pass with 6:58 to play and the Horned Frogs stopping the Utes on downs on their final possession with 2:35 remaining. TCU then ran out the clock, keyed by a Savion Williams 2-yard carry on a 4th-and-1 at the Utah 48 with 2:17 left.
Williams led TCU with 72 yards rushing on seven carries while adding a team-best five receptions.
The Horned Frogs led 10-0 at the half, thanks to a Kyle Lemmermann 23-yard field goal and a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Josh Hoover, set up on the previous play by a 20-yard completion to Drake Dabney. Lemmermann later added a 28-yard make.
