
First Half Lead Slips Away for Horned Frogs in Loss at No. 6 Baylor

No. 23 TCU suffers first defeat in 2023-24; Prince collects 10th double-double
WACO, Texas – No. 23 TCU hit its first speed bump of the 2023-24 campaign, dropping a 71-50 decision to sixth-ranked Baylor inside Foster Pavilion on Wednesday.
TCU took a four-point edge into the locker room and led 32-25 two-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter. The Bears (13-0, 2-0 Big 12) then scored 31 of the contest's next 35 points to go on top by 20 at 56-36 with 6:50 remaining. TCU went more than nine minutes without a field goal and was outscored 49-24 in the second half.
Sedona Prince tallied her 10th double-double of the season for the Horned Frogs (14-1, 1-1 Big 12). She finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. The 6-7 center scored 13 of TCU's 25 second half points.
Madison Conner chipped in 11 points of her own, marking the 13th game this season both players have scored in double figures.
TCU limited Baylor to a season-worst 39 percent shooting clip from the field. The Bears, though, connected on 13-25 attempts from deep. Nine of Baylor's 3-pointers came in the third and fourth frames.
The Horned Frogs closed the first half on 12-3 run over the final 6:44 on their way to a 26-22 advantage.
Five consecutive points from Conner via a deep ball and right-handed finish through contact gridlocked the score 19-19. TCU scored the final six points of the period behind mid-range jumpers from Agnes Emma-Nnopu and Prince and right side drive by Jaden Owens (eight points, six rebounds) at the buzzer.
The Horned Frogs' halftime lead signified the first time Baylor trailed at the intermission all season.
TCU widened its lead to 30-25 after Una Jovanovic split a double team and dumped it down low to Prince one minute into the second half. Owens, who played three seasons for Baylor from 2020-23, snipped her former team behind the arc from the left key on the ensuing possession, giving TCU its largest lead of the ballgame 1:40 into the second half.
Baylor regained the edge on the scoreboard at 37-35 entering the media timeout and never relinquished the lead from there.
The Horned Frogs finished plus-18 (38-20) in points in the paint.
