Horned Frogs led by as many as 11 points in road loss

CINCINNATI – No. 19 TCU led by as many as 11 points, but could not hold on in an 81-77 loss at Cincinnati Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena.

The Horned Frogs (13-4, 2-2) made nine of its first 10 shot attempts, capped by a three by Emanuel Miller, to lead 23-13, just over five minutes into the game.

One of five 3-pointers by Trevian Tennyson with 7:33 remaining in the first half, gave TCU its largest lead of the game, 29-18. From that moment, Cincinnati (13-4, 2-2) outscored TCU 14-4 the remainder of the half as the Frogs led 81-77 at the break.

The first bucket of the second half was a three by the Bearcats' Viktor Lakhin, which gave UC its first lead of the game. Another three by Tennyson regained the lead for the Frogs, 39-38 with 16:42 remaining in regulation. TCU kept that lead for the next 15 minutes and as many as nine with 10 minutes left to play.

UC took advantage of TCU making one basket in the final five minutes and 21 seconds to tie it at 67-67 and send the game to overtime despite both teams having multiple chances to virtually win it in regulation.

TCU had two brief one-point leads, early in the extra period. A tough floater by Jameer Nelson Jr., who finished with 13 points, tied the game 77-77 with 49 seconds to play. UC responded with a layup and an ensuing JaKobe Coles 3-pointer was off target. Day Day Thomas sealed the win at the free throw line, making both tries. He finished with a game-high 21 points.

TCU made a season-best 11 3-pointers, but also had a season-high 19 turnovers.

Tennyson led the Frogs with 17 points as he was 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Miller finished with 15 points and five assists. Micah Peavy and Ernest Udeh Jr. each had 11 points. Udeh added a team-best nine rebounds and a career-high five steals.

The Horned Frogs return to action at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against No. 24 Iowa State.

Jamie Dixon fell to 8-5 against the Bearcats as a head coach.

Individual Notes

Trevian Tennyson led the Frogs in scoring for the second time in four games with 17 points.
Tennyson was 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He is nine of 14 from three over the past two games. He has multiple 3-pointers in nine games.
Tennyson's 39 minutes played were a career-high.
Emanuel Miller scored 15 points and was 2-of-5 from three. It was his 15th game this season in double-digits.
Miller continues to climb TCU's all-time scoring list. Miller moved past James Cash for 35^th at TCU with 1,028 points.
Miller tied a season-high with five assists.
Avery Anderson III led TCU in assists for the seventh time this season with six.
Jameer Nelson Jr. scored 13 points, his 11th game this season in double-figures.
Ernest Udeh led TCU with nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Udeh's 11 points was the second most of the season. His five field goals made were a career-high on eight attempts.
