
TCU Remains Undefeated at Home with Sweep Over Texas Tech

Parra led TCU with 17 kills on a career-best .500 hitting percentage.
FORT WORTH – TCU opened Big 12 play at home with a 3-0 sweep of Texas Tech on Thursday night at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
Melanie Parra led the Frogs with 17 kills, hitting at a career-best .500 clip while also adding four aces. Sarah Sylvester led the team with eight blocks in the victory.
The Rundown
TCU got off to a fast start and led the entirety of the first set. Melanie Parra landed her first kill of the night to put TCU up 1-0 and her third kill of the night extended TCU's early lead to 5-2. The Frogs' defense was on full display from the get-go as well. Sarah Sylvester posted three blocks in the first set, including a huge block from her and Audrey Nalls to clinch the 25-16 set one win for the Frogs.
In addition to its five team blocks, TCU held Texas Tech to just seven kills on a -.054 hitting percentage in the first set.
TCU's serve could not be stopped in the second set. The Frogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead on back-to-back service aces by Nalls, and Parra tallied three consecutive aces to give TCU the 10-4 advantage.
A kill from Nalls sparked a 4-0 scoring run for the Frogs and one of Jalyn Gibson's five kills in the second set put TCU up 20-8. A final kill Lydia Seymour gave TCU the 25-12 set win.
TCU trailed for the first time in the match in the third set as the Red Raiders jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead. A kill from Nalls tied the contest at 9-all and a 5-0 scoring run shortly after gave TCU a commanding lead, highlighted by two kills from Gibson and a Cecily Bramschreiber ace.
Texas Tech climbed back and kept the contest close. At 22-all, TCU ended the match on a 3-0 run, with a kill from Parra sealing the victory for TCU.
