
TCU Finishes Second at Valero Texas Collegiate

Frimodt earns co-medalist honors
SAN ANTONIO – Gustav Frimodt earned co-medalist honors to lead TCU to a runner-up finish at the Valero Texas Collegiate on Monday at TPC San Antonio.
Frimodt recovered from a 1-over 37 on the front nine to 1-under 35 on the back to shoot even-par 72. The senior entered into a three-way playoff with Baylor's Johnny Keefer and FGCU's Joe Sullivan. On the second playoff hole, Sullivan made birdie to win the tournament and earn the exemption into the 2024 Valero Texas Open.
Brandon Massey shot 3-under 69, which tied a career-best round vs. par, to move up to 16 spots to tie for 19th place. He had a par or better in the last 14 holes, which he played 3-under.
Joining Massey in 19th place was Andrew Petruzzelli. The freshman finished his collegiate debut at even-par 72, capped off by back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and 18.
Ethan Dial shot 1-under 71 to finish tied for 23rd place at 2-over 218. Jack Beauchamp finished tied for 31st place at 4-over 73,
TCU entered the day with a one-stroke lead on the 12-team field. The Horned Frogs had its best round of the tournament at 4-under 284, but No. 3-ranked Vanderbilt was 12-under to soar to the top and claim the team title at 13-under. TCU was five back at 8-under.
The Horned Frogs will return to action Sept. 25-26 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
