TCU earned its first win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Bulldogs
CONWAY, S.C. – TCU earned its first win of the season with a commanding 3-0 sweep of Georgia on Friday night at the HTC Center.
Melanie Parra was the team-leader in kills with 16 while also adding seven digs. Jalyn Gibson also tallied her third double-digit kill effort of the season with 10.
The Rundown
TCU commanded the court from the first point. Tied at 4-4, a kill by Audrey Nalls sparked a 3-0 scoring run. Six of Melanie Parra's 16 team-leading kills came in the first set and put the Frogs up by as many as seven points on two separate occasions.
Riley Buckley recorded two service aces in three points for the Horned Frogs and also tallied the set-winning block that clinched the 25-19 victory.
The second set was an even back-and-forth for the entire frame. Jalyn Gibson led the Frogs with five kills in the set, including a key kill that put TCU up 19-18. All tied up at 24, Gibson delivered the kill to give TCU the 25-24 lead, and Parra delivered the final blow for the Frogs to win 26-24.
It was a block party as six different Horned Frogs recorded a block in the second set, including Sarah Sylvester who posted three.
The beginning of the third set was an even battle as well. Julia Adams tallied back-to-back kills to tie the match 8-8 and TCU continued to match Georgia point-for-point. Tied 17-all, the Frogs scored three straight points, highlighted by kills from Gibson and Sylvester, to take a 20-17 lead.
Despite the Bulldogs threatening a comeback, Parra's final kill of the night gave TCU the 23-22 edge and the Frogs never gave it up. Parra tallied seven kills in the final set of the night as the Frogs outhit the Bulldogs .367-.276 in the third.
Parra led TCU in kills for the third time this season with 16 while also finishing second on the team in digs. Gibson continued her stellar sophomore campaign with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks.
