
Defense Shines in Frogs’ Win Over UNF

Green and Seymour each tallied five blocks in win over Ospreys
CONWAY, S.C. – TCU's stellar defense was on full display as the Frogs defeated North Florida 3-1 on Saturday at the HTC Center.
TCU tallied 13 team blocks to North Florida's seven, and Brianna Green and Lydia Seymour each posted five blocks in the win.
The Rundown
TCU's offense came to life in the second set. Despite hitting just -.061 in the first set, the Horned Frogs responded hitting .207 throughout the second frame.
Gibson, who finished the night as TCU's leader in kills, tallied six throughout the first frame. She landed two kills early in the set to help propel the Frogs to an early 6-1 lead.
TCU never gave up the lead throughout the second set and led by as many as six in the middle of the frame. With the Ospreys threatening to rally, Gibson and Melanie Parra landed two consecutive kills to put TCU up 17-11. Up, 21-15, North Florida recorded four attack errors in the final points to cement the win for the Frogs.
The Frogs were never down in the third set after the Ospreys initially went up 2-0. Trailing, TCU scored six points in a row to kick off the offense in the third set. Brianna Green notched one of her six kills in the match to keep TCU's momentum strong, giving the Frogs a 9-5 lead that they never let up.
The offense continued to shine as Gibson's 15th kill of the night clinched the third set for the Frogs. TCU outhit the Ospreys .256-.051 with six different Frogs recording a kill in the third frame.
Tied 1-1 to start the fourth, the Frogs went on a 6-0 scoring run with kills from four different players to jump out to a 7-1 advantage. Leading 10-7, TCU commanded the court and scored eight straight points, highlighted by a Lydia Seymour kill.
A final kill from Gibson cemented the victory for the Frogs at the end of the fourth set as TCU won 25-11.
In addition to its offensive performance, TCU shined defensively as the Frogs tallied 13 team blocks compared to North Florida's seven. Both Green and Seymour led the way with five blocks and six other players recorded at least one block. Additionally, the Frogs held UNF to a season-low hitting percentage of .028 with two sets of negative hitting percentages as well.
Gibson finished the contest with 19 kills and nine digs, the third time this season Gibson has led the Frogs in kills. Parra and Taylor Raiola each added eight kills as well while Raiola also had 14 digs.
