Became the third Horned Frog to be awarded a spot in London
FORT WORTH – A breakthrough season on the ATP Tour saw former TCU men's tennis star Reese Stalder rewarded with a ticket to the sport's most storied tournament.
Stalder, a 2017 All-American, received a spot in the main doubles draw of The Championships, Wimbledon 2023 on Thursday.
He is the third Horned Frog competing in London, joining Cam Norrie and Jake Fearnley. The selection marks Stalder's first Grand Slam appearance.
Stalder and his doubles partner, David Pei, face the all-French tandem of Constant Lestienne and Corentin Moutet at approximately 5 a.m. CT on Friday in the first round.
Stalder has rapidly risen through the ATP doubles rankings in 2023. He ascended to a career-high world No. 79 ranking after winning the Caribbean Open doubles championship on June 12 on the ATP Challenger Tour. He cracked the ATP top-100 for the first time on May 8 on the heels of a doubles title at the ATP Challenger Busan Open.
Since January 2022, Stalder has won five doubles championships and been a semifinalist on nine occasions.
Stalder's Wimbledon selection grants TCU two chances to claim a doubles result at the All England Club. Fearnley, a rising fifth year senior, is set to make his Grand Slam debut in doubles around noon CT on Thursday in a first round matchup opposite Andre Goransson and Ben McLachlan.
Norrie, the British No. 1, picked up his ninth career Wimbledon victory via a first round singles defeat of Tomas Machac, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, on Tuesday.
He is set to battle the United States' Christopher Eubanks on Friday in the second round.
All Wimbledon matches will air on ESPN and ESPN+.
