The four-day preliminary meet begins Wednesday, May 24
FORT WORTH – TCU is ready to continue its postseason run at the NCAA West First Round, slated for May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif.
In order to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, athletes will need to place in the top 12 of their respective event standings at the NCAA West Preliminary.

The first round of competition for the men will begin on Wednesday, May 24, followed by the women's first round on Thursday, May 25. The men and women who advance will compete in the quarterfinal round on Friday and Saturday, respectively, for the chance to punch their ticket to Austin.
Last Time Out
The Horned Frogs had numerous stellar performances at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, which was highlighted by Sydney Juszczyk winning TCU's first ever Big 12 Javelin Championship. The sophomore, who garnered bronze at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships last season, threw 50.42m en route to gold.
Gracie Morris earned bronze in the 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:19.61. Additionally, the men's 4x400 team of Ethan Brown, Donnie James, David Seete and Ryan Jordan finished third with a season-best time of 3:03.92.
In the women's heptathlon, Jill Johnson shattered the school record with her personal-best 5,032 points. Johnson notched five individual event PRs on the day as she claimed sixth on the podium.
Also recording a season-best time was Simbarashe Maketa in the 400m. Maketa claimed fourth on the podium with his time of 45.22, propelling him to a top 10 NCAA Regional ranking.

The men's triple jump squad (Jaren Holmes, Theophilus Mudzengerere, Gavin Champ, Patrick Sylla and Damilare Olukosi) rank No. 2 in the USTFCCCA's #EventSquad rankings with a combined average leap of 15.79m (51' 9.75"). Both Holmes (No. 9) and Mudzengerere (No. 23) are ranked in the Top 25 on the NCAA Outdoor Performance List.
Maketa's season-best 45.22 in the 400m also earned TCU men's 400m squad a place in the top 10 on the USTFCCCA #EventSquad as well. Brown, James, Maketa and Seete combine for an average time of 45.89 and are seventh in the #EventSquad rankings.
Big 12 Athletes of the Week
TCU swept the Big 12 Athlete of the Week awards on March 22. With her three wins at the TCU Alumni Invite, Gray garnered TCU's first female Big 12 Athlete of the Week award since 2021. She currently leads the Big 12 in both the 100m and the 4x100 relay. On the men's side, Mudzengerere's victory in the triple jump earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week after leading the Big 12 in the triple jump.
2023 Indoor Season Recap
Both Grace Anigbata and Jaren Holmes garnered Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Anigbata finished 10th overall with her school-record leap of 13.58m (44' 6.75").
On the men's side, Holmes finished ninth with his mark of 16.23m (53' 3"). It's the third time this indoor season he has cleared 16.10m and the first time he has garnered All-American honors.
