DALLAS – Alex Rybakov, a three-time ITA All-American for TCU men's tennis, claimed the biggest result of his professional career on Monday.
Rybakov, who starred on the purple courts from 2016-2019, earned a spot in the main singles draw of the Dallas Open.
Originally from Coral Springs, Florida, Rybakov won two qualifying matches from Sunday-Monday. Rybakov defeated Jonas Forejtek, 6-4, 6-4, on Sunday before punching his ticket to the main draw with another straight set victory, downing Elmar Ejupovic, 7-5, 6-3, Monday afternoon.
He'll face Marcos Giron, the 55th-ranked ATP singles player and the tournament's No. 7 seed, in the round of 32.
Monday's triumph marks the first time Rybakov has qualified for an ATP 250 main draw.
Rybakov has ascended as high as No. 289 in the ATP singles rankings since concluding his collegiate playing career in 2019.
He is one of the most decorated players to pass through Fort Worth.
Rybakov is one of six players in program history to garner All-American credentials in both singles and doubles. He attained All-American status in singles in 2017 and 2019 and was an All-American doubles honoree in 2018. Rybakov received All-Big 12 Singles first team honors in each of his four seasons in purple and white and was a two-time All-Big 12 doubles first team selection. In 2016, he was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and ITA National Rookie of the Year. Rybakov went on to obtain ITA Texas Region Player of the Year recognition twice (2018, 2019) and was honored as Big 12 Co-Player of the Year his senior season. He is also one of only a handful of athletes in school history to be chosen as Best Male Athlete and Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in the same athletics season.
The Dallas Open was incepted in 2022 and is held at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU. It is one of only 10 ATP Tour tournaments based in the United States and is the sole indoor championship in the United States. The tournament was relocated to the Lone Star State from Uniondale, New York, where it was formerly the New York Open from 2018-2021.
