The Frogs Win Third in a Row
Fort Worth: TCU women's tennis took down Alabama for their third sweep in as many matches this season 4-0 on Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU (3-0) beat the Crimson Tide (3-2) by way of a 4-0 sweep. The Horned Frogs made a drastic turnaround from just a season ago against the Tide.
The Horned Frogs took control of the match early with some solid performances in the doubles point. In their first action as a pair, Tephanie Lemiatre and Destinee Martins took ahold of some early momentum with a 6-4 victory over Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anna Marie Hiser.
Jade Otway and Mercedes Aristegui took down Petra Sedlackova/Anna Parkhomenko 6-4 to put the Frogs up by one. The duo remains unbeaten in doubles this season.
In singles, Tiphanie Lemaitre got her first win under her belt in her debut as a Horned Frog. The senior knocked off Alabama's Sedlackova in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). Sedlackova came into the match ranked as the No. 75th singles player in the country.
The Frogs continued to assert their dominance in singles with the sophomore Otway and gr. senior Aristegui completed the sweep for their third win of the season.
Otway dropped just four games during her singles match in a 6-2, 6-2 win against Alabama's Ola Pitak. Aristegui finished the clinching point for the Frogs in a nail bitting tiebreaker in the second set. With the score even at six apiece in the tiebreaker, the gr. senior capitalized on the final two points in the tiebreaker taking the singles match and the win.
Up Next: TCU Women's Tennis is back in action tomorrow Feb. 5 inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center against the Ole Miss Rebels. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
