
Coles’ Career Performance Steers Frogs to Win over Mavericks

Three Frogs score in doubles figures in second-straight game
FORT WORTH - JaKobe Coles tied a career-high with 21 points in 21 minutes to lead TCU to an 82-60 win over Omaha Thursday evening in Schollmaier Arena.
The Mavericks (1-1) initiated the lead within the first two minutes of play. A Horned Frogs (2-0) 3-pointer by Coles gave TCU its first lead of 8-7 at the 17:38 mark, the start of 10 unanswered points by TCU. The Frogs grabbed their first double-digit lead off a jump shot by Micah Peavy to make the score 34-24 with 4:20 remaining. Thirteen of Frankie Fidler's 20 points kept the Mavericks within striking distance as TCU led by 10 at halftime, 43-33.
TCU stretched its lead in the second half, opening on a 12-0 run over the first five minutes to lead 55-33. The Frogs reached their largest lead of 27 twice, once with five minutes to go on a 3-pointer by Trevian Tennyson and again with three minutes left on a Peavy layup.
The Frogs shot 49.3 percent from the field, with four players in double-figures. Following Coles' performance was Emanuel Miller with 17, and Peavy and Jameer Nelson Jr. both with 10 points. It was the second-straight double figure performance for Coles, Nelson and Peavy, who all scored 10 or more points on Monday against Southern.
TCU dominated the rebounding effort, 52-25, led by sophomore Ernest Udeh Jr. with 11.
The Frogs continue a six-game homestand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against UTRGV at Schollmaier Arena. The game will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

- JaKobe Coles led the Horned Frogs in scoring with a career-tying 21 points. He made his first seven shot attempts and finished 7-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three. He was 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.
- The seven field goals were the most field goals made in his career and his third game leading the team in points. Coles also had 21 points against Jackson State last season.
- Jameer Nelson Jr. tallied his second consecutive 10+ point game of the season, the 78th of his career.
- Ernest Udeh led in rebounds tallying a career-high 11. He also scored his first points as a Horned Frog with a layup early in the second half.
- Newcomer Essam Mostafa contributed seven points, his most as a Horned Frog.
- Jameer Nelson Jr. and Emanuel Miller led the Frogs with three steals each.
