Zaun fires third-highest aggregate score in program history
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU fired its top aggregate score of the season, shooting a 4,746 in defeating No. 3 Alaska on Sunday at the TCU Rifle Range. The aggregate mark is the sixth-highest in program history. Katie Zaun led the way with a career-day on the range.
For the second straight day, Zaun paced the field with the top score in both disciplines. She fired a 596 in smallbore, a score that is tied for the third-best in program history. Zaun also matched her career-high with a 599 in air rifle, accomplishing the feat for the third time in her career. Her aggregate mark of 1,195 is tied for the second-best aggregate in program history.
The Horned Frogs matched their season-high smallbore score, shooting a 2,356, which is tied for the ninth-highest mark in program history. A season-high score of 2,390 in air rifle is tied for the third-best score in program history.
All in all, TCU produced six of the top 10 aggregate marks. Stephanie Grundsoee eclipsed the 1,190 plateau for the second time this season, firing a 1,190 to finish second. For the second day in a row Jeanne Haverhill set a personal best, firing an aggregate of 1,183 to finish fourth. Nina Schuett was seventh with a score of 1,177, while Mikole Hogan and Stephanie Allan tied for ninth with an aggregate of 1,176.
Zaun (596) and Grundsoee (592) were the lone shooters to eclipse the 590 plateau in smallbore. Haverhill contributed a 586 and Hogan a 582 to account for TCU's team score.
While not factoring in the team score, Schuett turned in the sixth-highest mark, shooting a 584 in smallbore. For the second day in a row, Gianna Yokoe fired a career-high in the discipline, shooting a 573.
In air rifle, the Horned Frogs fired four of the top five scores. Zaun's 599 paced the field, while Grundsoee was right behind her with a 598. Haverhill set a career-high with a 597 to finish third. Allan's 596 was fifth. Hogan fired a 594 and Schuett a 593.
Kaylynn Slaughter turned in a solid day, setting a career-high with a 582 in air rifle. Combined with her 569 in smallbore, she tied her career-high aggregate score (1,151). Gianna Yokoe fired a season-high 580 in air rifle and added with her career-high in smallbore, she established career-high 1,153 aggregate.
TCU will wrap up its fall season on Saturday, Nov. 12 at UTEP.
