TCU leads the nation in air rifle average
FORT WORTH – The No. 2-ranked TCU women's rifle team will conclude its fall schedule Sunday morning at UTEP. The Horned Frogs currently lead the nation in air rifle average and sit second nationally in smallbore and aggregate average. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. (CT).
In the race to qualify for the National Championship match, TCU boasts the second-best three-score average in the country at 4,739.67. In its last match, TCU matched its best smallbore outing of the year, shooting a 2,356. Additionally, the squad turned it the best air rifle mark in the country this season, shooting a 2,390.
Katie Zaun had a match to remember against Alaska on Sunday, setting a personal best with a 596 in smallbore. Additionally, she matched her personal-best air rifle mark, shooting a 599 for the third time in her career to set a career-high 1,195 aggregate. Zaun owns the top two and three of the top four individual aggregate marks of the season in the NCAA. She ranks second nationally in air rifle average (597.67), smallbore average (591.50) and aggregate average (1,189.17).
Stephanie Grundsoee has also been a consistent performer throughout the season, sitting third nationally with a 597.40 air rifle average, second in smallbore average (591.50) and third in aggregate average (1,188.90).
Jeanne Haverhill has improved her scores each time out this season and set personal bests in both disciplines (587 smallbore; 597 air rifle) and aggregate score (1,183) the last time out against Alaska.
Stephanie Allan remains the only shooter to fire a perfect air rifle score this season. She ranks 15th nationally in the discipline with a season average of 595.33.
Mikole Hogan has had a strong sophomore campaign. She has eclipsed the 590 mark in air rifle in all six matches. Additionally, she has contributed an aggregate score of 1,170 or better in all six matches.
Nina Schuett will also make the journey to UTEP this weekend. Against Alaska, she turned in some of her best marks of the season, setting a season-high in smallbore with a 588. Coupled with a 594 in air rifle, she produced her second-best aggregate mark of 1,182.
UTEP will be shooting just its fourth match of the season on Sunday. The Miners have a season aggregate average of 4,581.00. They are led by Micah Hames who has a team-best 572.33 smallbore average and a 584.67 air rifle average.
