Frogs produce six of the top 10 aggregate marks
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU fired a team score of 4,385 to defeat No. 3 Alaska in the first of two weekend matches. The Horned Frogs produced six of the top 10 aggregate marks led by Katie Zaun's 1,186.
Zaun fired the top score in both disciplines, shooting a 589 in smallbore and a 597 in air rifle. Stephanie Grundsoee turned in a solid day on the range, finishing second with an aggregate of 1,185.
Jeanne Haverhill continued her week-to-week improvement as she fired career-highs in smallbore (587) and aggregate (1,182) which helped her to a fourth place finish. Nina Schuett turned in a season-high aggregate mark of 1,182. Stephanie Allan's 1,178 aggregate finished sixth and Mikole Hogan rounded out the top 10 with an 1,171.
TCU produced the six of the top 10 marks in smallbore. Zaun and Grundsoee fired identical marks of 589. Haverhill's career-high 587 was fifth, while Allan's 581 was seventh. Hogan fired a 579 to finish 10th. Not factoring into the team score was Nina Schuett's season-high 588.
In the final smallbore relay, Kaylynn Slaughter (573) and Gianna Yokoe (570) fired career highs. Slaughter also shot a 578 in air rifle to set a personal best.
Five of the top seven air rifle scores were fired by Horned Frogs. Zaun (597), Allan (597) and Grundsoee (596) produced the top three marks. Haverhill's 595 was sixth, while Hogan's 592 was 11th. Schuett's strong day on the range saw her shoot a 594 to finish seventh.
Alaska fired a team score of 4,710, shooting a 2,332 in smallbore and a 2,378 in air rifle. Rachael Charles was the Nanooks top shooter in smallbore, tying for the match-high with a 589. Katrina Demerle paced the Nanooks in air rifle with a 596. Charles produced the squads top aggregate mark of 1,184 for a third place finish.
TCU and Alaska will meet on the range again on Sunday. Sighting will begin at 8:15 a.m.
