Averaged 21 points, nine rebounds and four blocks per game at St. Pete Showcase
FORT WORTH – Sedona Prince added a new award to her illustrious career collection on Monday.
Conference Player of the Week.
Prince was named Big 12 Player of the Week for Nov. 20-26 after leading TCU to a St. Pete Showcase tournament championship over Thanksgiving weekend.
The honor marks the first time Prince has received weekly all-conference recognition in her six-year college career. Prince was chosen to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and Lisa Leslie Award Watch List in October.
TCU has garnered two Big 12 Player of the Week accolades three weeks into the 2023-24 campaign. Madison Conner claimed the crown on Nov. 13.
Originally from Liberty Hill, Texas, Prince averaged 21 points, nine rebounds and four blocks per game in TCU's wins over UTEP and Nebraska on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The graduate student was tabbed tournament MVP following TCU's 88-81 takedown of Nebraska in the de facto championship game.
Prince collected her NCAA-leading fifth double-double in the victory, finishing with 23 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks over 38 minutes. She scored 17 of her points in the second half and went 6-6 at the foul line over the contest's final 37 seconds to help TCU put the game on ice.
She has eclipsed 20 points in three of the Horned Frogs' last four victories and helped TCU (7-0) match its best start to a season.
Prince paced TCU in an 85-56 rout of UTEP on Thanksgiving Day, collecting 19 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. All five of her rejections came in the second half.
She has scored in double figures in all seven of TCU's wins.
Prince is averaging 21.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.
Few players across the D1 ranks can match Prince's start to the season. In addition to being the country's leader in double-doubles, Prince ranks fifth nationally in total blocks (20), points (150) and rebounds (73). She is 19th among all players in points per game and 24th in rebounds per game. Prince holds the distinction of being the only player who ranks in the top-20 in the nation in points and rebounds per game. She is also one of only two players in the country averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Prince became the eighth player in TCU's 12-year Big 12 era to win the award. She is also just the second post player in program history to nab Big 12 Player of the Week honors, joining Amy Okonkwo (Dec. 22, 2017).
TCU and Prince next take the floor at 6:30 p.m. on Friday when the Horned Frogs host Tulsa (5-2) for a chance to secure the best start to a season in school history.
