Nelson Jr. records a double-double to lead TCU to 6-0

FORT WORTH - Senior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. recorded his sixth-career double-double to lead the TCU men's basketball team to a 101-64 win over Houston Christian Monday night in Schollmaier Arena.

The Delaware transfer had 15 points and a career-high 10 assists for his first double-double as a Horned Frog. Nelson was 5-9 from the field and made one 3-pointer. He formed a back court duo with Avery Anderson III that had a combined 15 assists to one turnover on the night with the one coming from Nelson. As a team, TCU (6-0) had a season-low six turnovers and forced HCU (0-5) into 24 turnovers.

The Huskies maintained the lead in the first 10 minutes of play, but the Horned Frogs responded with an 8-0 scoring run at 11:22 to close the gap. TCU then went on a 20-2 run to close the first half and lead 51-29, its largest halftime lead of the season.

The Frogs continued to excel throughout the second half. TCU's 17 steals tied for the most in Jamie Dixon's eight seasons as a head coach. All 13 available players saw action which allowed Darius Ford and Tyler Lundblade score their first-career 3-pointers

Emanuel Miller led the Frogs in scoring with 19 points. Micah Peavy had 15 points and JaKobe Coles finished with 12 to round out the double-figure scorers.

The Frogs travel for the first time this season to Washington D.C. for the BIG EAST - Big 12 Battle to face Georgetown on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT at Capital One Arena. The game will be available on FS1.

Team Notes

TCU improved to 8-1 all-time against Houston Christian.
The Frogs improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 2017-2018 season when they were 12-0.
The 37-point margin of victory was the Frogs' largest since a 46-point (103-57) win over Central Arkansas on Dec. 28, 2022.
TCU matched a season-high with nine blocks.
The Frogs had a season-high 17 steals. It was the most since recording 17 at West Virginia on Feb. 26, 2019, the most in the Jamie Dixon era.
It was the second game the Frogs reached 100 points this season after a 108-75 win to open the season against Southern.
TCU had a season-low six turnovers. It's the fewest since recording five against Arizona State on March 3, 2023.
TCU was 18-of-22 from the free throw line for 81.8 percent. In the past two games, the Frogs are 50-for-61 from the line for 81.9 percent.
The Frogs committed 10 fouls, their lowest of the season.
TCU, which entered the game first in the nation in fastbreak points, finished with 36.
TCU improved to 88-13 against nonconference opponents under Dixon.
TCU improved to 96-33 overall and 62-5 in nonconference games under Jamie Dixon.
Under Dixon, TCU is 74-11 in the months of November and December combined.
TCU wore black uniforms for the first time this season and improved to 4-4 in them.
TCU's strength of schedule remaining is ninth in the country according to ESPN.com.

Individual Notes

Emanuel Miller led the team with a season-high 19 points, his fifth-straight game in double-digits.
Jameer Nelson Jr. achieved his sixth career double-double, his first as a Horned Frog. He matched a season-high 15 points and had a career-high 10 assists.
Micah Peavy scored 17 points for his sixth consecutive game in double-digits.
Peavy was 1-of-3 from 3-point range. He has made at least one three-pointer in each of the last four games.
JaKobe Coles put up a double-figures scoring effort with 12 points. It was his fifth game this season with double-digit scoring.
Coles had a team-high six rebounds.
Avery Anderson III had a season-high four steals.
Trevian Tennyson contributed eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Essam Mostafa had two blocks, matching his season-high.
Tyler Lundblade scored a career-high three points on his first career 3-pointer.
Darius Ford scored a career-high five points, shooting 2-for-3 from the field and his first career 3-pointer.
All 13 available Frogs saw action.
Chuck O'Bannon was unavailable due to a right ankle injury.
