
TCU Topples No. 20 Baylor on the Road

WACO, Texas – Double-doubles from Melanie Parra and Jalyn Gibson led the Horned Frogs to a 3-1 victory at No. 20 Baylor on Friday night at the Ferrell Center. The win is TCU's first ranked win of the season and the first win in Waco since 2015.
Parra tallied a team-high 24 kills on the night with 15 digs, while Gibson added 14 kills of her own and 16 digs in the four-set win.
The Rundown
The first set was a back-and-forth battle until a kill by Jalyn Gibson put TCU up 12-11, a lead the Frogs would keep the remainder of the set. Leading 14-13, the Frogs went on an 11-3 scoring run, highlighted by three kills by Audrey Nalls, to take the first set 25-16.
Set two saw Baylor jump out to a 2-0 lead, but a rocket of a kill by Nalls put TCU on the board. The Frogs got their first lead of the set on a Melanie Parra kill, giving TCU an 6-5 advantage.
Baylor's offense got rolling and the Bears took an 18-15 lead, but a service error and back-to-back TCU blocks tied the score up at 18-all. Trailing 21-19, Parra landed back-to-back kills to tie the set, and another Parra kill gave TCU the 24-23 lead. Despite the Bears tying it up one more time, TCU scored back-to-back points and won the set 26-24.
Parra recorded 10 of her 24 total kills in the second set en route to TCU taking a 2-0 match lead.
A service ace from Gibson gave TCU an early 7-3 lead and forced a Baylor timeout early in the third set. Another Green kill put the Frogs up 8-4, but a 10-0 Baylor scoring run saw TCU down 14-8.
Trailing 17-9, TCU went on a 7-1 scoring run of their own and a kill from Gibson pulled the Frogs within two at 18-16. The Frogs kept up the fight as Parra's 16th kill of the night made it a 24-21 set, but a Bears' kill won them the set, 25-21.
The Frogs began the fourth set strong and jumped out to an early 3-1 lead. TCU kept a steady lead throughout most of the set, and a Lily Nicholson ace put TCU up 13-8. Baylor began to climb back and a battle commenced as the Bears tied it up at 20-20.
Tied at 22-all, both teams exchanged points until a service ace from Gibson gave TCU a 28-27 lead. Parra's 24th and final kill of the night secured the match win for the Frogs at 29-27.
