Taiwo's eight 3-pointers are the most by a Big 12 player this season
FORT WORTH – Tomi Taiwo made eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 33 points in TCU's 78-70 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday at Schollmaier Arena. No other player in the Big 12 has made more from beyond the arc in a single game this season.
The Rundown
Taiwo got off to a hot start as she scored nine points in a row on three 3-pointers, helping TCU finish the first period tied at 16. In the second quarter, Paige Bradley nailed a 3-pointer with 1:31 remaining to take a 31-28 lead. TCU carried a one-point lead into halftime while the Horned Frogs went 7-of-14 from behind the arc.
TCU continued to cause chaos in the second half. The Horned Frogs scored nine fast break points in the third quarter, including Knisha Godfrey's driving layup with 6:34 remaining to make it a 39-36 TCU lead.
Trailing by three points headed into the final frame, TCU took another lead with 7:42 remaining. Tomi Taiwo caused a Texas Tech turnover and nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to give TCU a 57-55 edge.
Despite Lucy Ibeh scoring seven consecutive TCU points, Texas Tech took a 68-67 lead with 2:52 remaining and pulled away.
Taiwo had career-bests in points (33), made field goals (9) and made 3-pointers (8). Only five other players in TCU program history have made eight or more threes. She's the first player to score 30 or more points since Lauren Heard (31) against Oklahoma in 2021. Taiwo finished the day going 8-of-13 from behind the arc.
