Mike Miles 23 points leads Frogs to largest win over Sooners

FORT WORTH - No. 11 TCU never trailed in a 79-52 win over Oklahoma in front of a capacity crowd Tuesday at Schollmaier Arena.

Mike Miles Jr. scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to set the tone in the Horned Frogs' (16-4, 5-3) largest win ever over the Sooners (11-9, 2-6).

An announced attendance of 8,145 was the second-largest crowd ever for a TCU home game. Those in attendance witnessed the Horned Frogs' best start to a season in 25 years.

TCU began the game with an 11-0 run, setting the pace on defense with by forcing four turnovers and holding the Sooners to zero points in the first five minutes. The Frogs were perfect from the free throw line in the first half (13-of-13) thanks to a 10-of-10 effort from Miles. TCU was 5-of-10 from three in the first half and led 44-27 at the break.

The Frogs began the second half like the first, on an 11-0 run. OU's first points game nearly seven minutes into the period. TCU built its biggest lead of 31 on four occasions before winning by 27.

Damion Baugh scored 13 points and led the Frogs with five assists. Micah Peavy returned after missing the last four games with a back injury to score 13 points and added a season-high nine rebounds.

Up next, TCU will play at Mississippi St. in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Starkville, Miss. The game will be available on ESPN2.

Team Notes

TCU improved to 16-4 for the first time since the 1997-98 season. It's the best start in 25 years.
TCU improved to 7-27 against OU all-time and has won the last three meetings.
The Horned Frogs held the Sooners to their lowest point total (52) in matchup history. Their previous lowest was 57 in 2017 against the Frogs.
TCU outrebounded Oklahoma, 46-38. The Frogs improved to 11-1 this season and 111-35 under Jamie Dixon when outrebounding their opponent.
The Frogs defeated the Sooners by 27, the biggest winning margin ever against OU. The previous best was 19 (82-63) in Kansas City on March 8, 2017.
TCU led for the entirety of the game for the third time this season.

Individual Notes

Mike Miles scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half. It was his 22nd-straight double-digit scoring game, dating back to last season.
Miles shot a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. It was his fourth game of the season shooting perfect from the line and has made 14-straight dating back to West Virginia.
Miles was the eighth TCU player ever to be perfect from the free throw line with at least 10 attempts. He's the first since Vladimir Brodziansky's 10-of-10 against Kansas on Jan. 6, 2018, to do it. Kurt Thomas' 16-of-16 is at the top of the list.
Miles' 10 free throws ties the most ever made by a TCU player against the Sooners.
Miles moved up to 22nd in all-time scoring at TCU with 1,140 career points.
Micah Peavy, in his first game back from injury, had 13 points, his seventh game of 10 or more points this season.
Peavy had a season-high nine rebounds
Damion Baugh scored 13 points. It was the 11th time he's scored in double figures in 14 games played.
Baugh had team-high five assists. It was his 11th time leading the team in that category in 14 games played.
Emanuel Miller had a team-high 10 rebounds, tying his season-high. It was his fourth time this season leading the team in that category.
Tyler Lundblade scored his first point since Nov. 17 against ULM with a free throw late in the game.
Eddie Lampkin Jr. missed the game with a left high ankle sprain that he suffered in the game at Kansas. He came off the bench during a timeout and aided a fan to a Jamie Dixon bobblehead.
