Recap: ITA Texas Regional Tournament

TCU collects 19 singles wins; 25 overall
FORT WORTH – The TCU women's tennis team completed play at the ITA Texas Regional tournament. Highlighting the Horned Frogs' performance was sophomore Helena Narmont, who reached the quarterfinals in singles.
Six Horned Frogs competed this past weekend at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center accumulating 19 singles victories and winning 25 matches overall.
Narmont finished the four-day event with three singles wins, collecting a tight 7-6, 7-6 win in the round of 16 versus UTSA's Tara Gorinsek. The Estonia native ultimately fell to the No. 1 seeded Marlee Zien of Texas in a third set tiebreaker (6-4, 2-6, 6-10).
Sophomore Jade Otway led the team in wins with five. Following on opening-round loss on Thursday, she went unbeaten in her next five contests. She finished the weekend with a 7-6, 2-6, 10-8 decision in the back-draw finals against North Texas' Jasmine Adams.
Senior Margaret Polk concluded the weekend with four singles victories including back-to-back wins on opening day. She collected two more wins in the back-draw of the singles bracket.
Junior Destinee Martins collected her first singles win of the fall in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). She added to that with a 6-1, 6-3 victory versus Sonya Kovalenko and her third win on Sunday. Freshman Yu-Chin Tsai also tallied the first two wins of her colligate career, topping the Mean Green's Jasmine Adams (6-4, 6-2). Graduate senior Mercedes Aristegui collected two wins in the tournament.
In doubles, Tsai and Polk gathered a team leading four triumphs in route to a spot in the finals of the back-draw bracket. After losing their first match on Thursday, Tsai and Polk went unbeaten the next three days featuring an 8-1 win over UTA's duo of Ioana Dumitrescu and Nika Novikova. In the finals, Polk and Tsai lost a tightly contested 8-5 match versus the No. 2 seed duo of Jakie Nylander and Hadley Doyle of SMU (8-5). Martins and Otway added an 8-0 sweep of Megan Do and Elena Rubio.
Up Next: The Frogs will head to Austin, Texas for the for the Austin ITF 25K from Sept. 26-30.
