FORT WORTH – TCU women's tennis (10-9) couldn't overcome No. 28 Iowa State, falling 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Alisa Soloveva earned her second ranked victory of the season at No. 1 singles for the lone TCU point.
Soloveva defeated No. 68 Thasaporn Naklo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. She improves to 9-5 this season and 2-2 against ranked opponents after beating No. 59 Cai (Wisconsin) earlier this season. Soloveva finishes the weekend 2-0 in singles play and has won her last three matches. Her nine singles wins ties her with freshman Jade Otway for the team lead.
The Frogs got off to a slow start in doubles, falling behind by a break within the first four games on all three courts. After ISU got a win at No. 1, the Horned Frogs bowed up, breaking back on both courts, only for ISU to get a late break on three and take one point advantage. This was just the second time all season TCU has lost a doubles point on the home courts (10-2).
In singles play, the Cyclones took four opening sets, including three by large margins. Isabel Pascual won her opening set on court five, 6-3, but couldn't retake momentum in the super set tiebreaker, falling 10-7 in the third set. ISU clinched the match, 4-0 and got another point from court three, before Soloveva finished off her ranked win. The final result of the day was from Pascual on court five.
