Horned Frogs Win 14 of 15 Sets in Non-Conference Finale
NEW ORLEANS – No. 1 TCU men's tennis (17-3) got back on track with a 7-0 sweep of No. 64 Tulane on Sunday afternoon at City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La. TCU won the doubles point and all six singles matches, only dropping one set throughout the dual.
"Proud of the way our team responded and competed today against a confident team who just beat Tulsa on Friday, head coach David Roditi said. "The conditions were different from what we have seen with the humidity, wind, etc. We needed some guys to step in and step up and they all did. Luí and Tim competed well to earn their wins. Obviously, it is nice to win the doubles point going into singles and regardless of that the players competed and played well throughout all the positions. Now we've got four days before we start the Big 12 schedule and it's nice to get to do it at TCU. Go Frogs!"
Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley extended their winning streak to five with a comfortable 6-3 result at No. 1 doubles. Their five-match winning streak is the longest of the season as they improve to 14-3 together. They have been in especially strong form over the last three matches, winning by a combined score of 18-7.
After Fomb and Fearnley gave TCU a lead, the No. 2 pairing of Sander Jong and Lui Maxted earned a late break, winning the final three games of their match to clinch the doubles point, 7-5. The win puts Jong/Maxted back in the win column after suffering their second loss of the year in the last match (12-2).
