Frogs fall to Mountaineers in first round on Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The TCU Horned Frogs saw its 2021-22 season come to an end on Thursday, falling 68-48 to West Virginia in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Championship at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium.

Senior Okako Adika led TCU with 17 points, going 6-for-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

THE RUNDOWN
TCU was held to a first half season-low 11 points and trailed 34-11 at the break. WVU led by as many as 27 points early in the third quarter, but the Horned Frogs managed to outscore the Mountaineers 16-11 the rest of the quarter. TCU opened the fourth quarter with an 11-2 run, cutting the deficit to just 13 points, but WVU countered back with a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach.

• TCU went with an all-guard starting line-up that consisted of Michelle Berry, Okako Adika, Tara Manumaleuga, Aahliyah Jackson and Lauren Heard.
• Heard started in her 122nd game at TCU and closes out her career ranked No. 3 all-time. She also played in her school record 153rd game. The 153 games played is also a Big 12 Conference record.
• TCU made a three-pointer in a game for the 325th straight game. The last time TCU went an entire game without a three-pointer was back on Jan. 5, 2012.
• Adika finished the game with 17 points. She posted a double-digit scoring effort for the 12th time this season and 28th time in her career.
• Heard finished with 14 points on the night. She has scored in 108 straight games, which ranks as TCU's third-longest scoring streak. She scored at least one point in 150 of 153 games played.
• Heard became the first TCU player – men's or women's – to score 2,000 points in a career. She closes out her career at TCU as the all-time leading scorer with 2,006 points.
• Heard closes out her career ranked among the top-five all-time career leaders in points, field goals made, free throws, rebounds, assists, steals, games played and games started.
