Frogs defeat Bears in Waco for first time in program history
WACO – The No. 8 TCU equestrian team took down No. 4 Baylor in Waco for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon. Jacey Albaugh claimed the MOP in flat while Shea Graham clinched the win for the Frogs and claimed the Reining MOP leading TCU to its first Big 12 win of the season.
THE RUNDOWN
TCU (7-5, 1-3 Big 12) opened the day with a 3-2 loss in Fences. Isabella Baxter scored the first point for TCU carding an 83 on Grande and outscoring her opponent by 11 points. Ashleigh Scully raked in her first Big 12 win of the season with a 75-64 win on Puzzle.
In Flat, TCU brought home its third consecutive win in the event, 3-2. Jacey Albaugh led the charge tying her season high with an 85 on Woody and claiming her second MOP of the season in the event. Sydney Berube and Wynne Weatherly followed suit winning their duals with 78.5 and 76.5 respectively. Leaving the Jumping Seat score at 5-5 heading into the Western side of the meet.
On the Western side, TCU tied in both Horsemanship and Reining, 2-2. Horsemanship was up first, and Jessica McAllister put the first point on the board for the Frogs outscoring her opponent 77-75 on Dillon. Giorgia Medows came through with a 76 which was good enough to beat her Bear opponent by one and add the second point of the event to the board.
The meet went to the Reining arena tied at 7-7. Giorgia Medows claimed the first point of the event after outriding her Baylor opponent by half a point on Polly. Jessica McAllister tied her opponent at 73 on Penny. Madyson Buchanan fell to her Baylor opponent 71.5-70 on Floyd. Shea Graham came into the arena with Baylor up 9-8, she completed dominated the pattern and outscored her Baylor opponent by half a point to send the meet into a raw score tie breaker. TCU came out on top in the calculation by 7.5 points (1489.0-1481.5).
UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs will be back in action Friday, Feb. 18, when they will take on No. 7 Fresno State in a Big 12 matchup at Diamond Creek Ranch set for 10 a.m.
