Miles scores 23 points and goes over 1,000 for his career
FORT WORTH - Trailing by as many as 13, No. 18 TCU clawed its way back into the game with help of 23 points from junior guard Mike Miles Jr., to win its Big12 Conference opener, 67-61, to Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs (12-1, 1-0), trailed 37-24 with 1:15 to play in the first half. The Red Raiders (10-3, 0-1) shot 46.7 percent from the field and made four 3-pointers to the Frogs' one in the first half to lead 37-26 at halftime.
TCU, which scored 18 of its 21 fastbreak points in the second half, scored the first 10 points of the period to get within one point of Tech, 37-36.
The Red Raiders expanded their lead to nine, 53-44, with 10:36 to play. Damion Baugh scored eight straight TCU points to tie the game, 53-53, with 7:09 to play. The junior guard finished with 14 points.
TCU forced Texas Tech into a season-high 23 turnovers and eight of those came over a six-minute period late in the game to set up a 12-3 TCU run to close out the game. Miles' layup with 3:37 to play gave TCU its first lead since it was 7-6 three minutes into the game.
The Horned Frogs will hit the road on Wednesday for a game at No. 12 Baylor. Tip time is set for 8 p.m. and will be on ESPN2.

- Miles became the 39th player in TCU history to reach 1,000 career points. He's at 1,001 points.
