The pairing also earned an automatic berth to the ITA Fall National Championships
WACO – TCU is one win away from securing the ITA Texas Regional doubles championship for the second straight year.
No. 1 seed Sander Jong and Lui Maxted swept Baylor's Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz, 6-2, 6-3, in a semifinal match on Monday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Jong and Maxted will meet Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez of UTSA in the finals at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The duo earned a quartet of 8-point pro set victories from Friday-Sunday to set up the semifinal showdown.
Jong and Maxted, the No. 3 ITA doubles pairing, also earned an automatic berth to the ITA Fall National Championships on Nov. 2-6 with Monday's result.
Jong claimed the doubles crown at the 2021 ITA Texas Regional alongside Pedro Vives.
TCU nearly positioned itself to sweep the singles and doubles titles.
No. 4 seed Jake Fearnley came two points short of advancing to the singles finals. He drew the assignment of Texas A&M's Pierce Rollins in the semifinals on Monday. Rollins won the first set 6-2 before Fearnley returned fire with a 6-2 triumph of his own to even the match. Fearnley and Rollins alternated games in set three to gridlock the score at 6-6 and force a 10-point tiebreaker. Rollins outlasted Fearnley 10-8.
Fearnley is 10-1 in singles matches through two fall tournaments.
Freshman Sebastian Gorzny fell in straight sets to Baylor's Finn Bass, 6-1, 6-2, in his semifinal match.
Gorzny, who captured the 2022 Wimbledon Junior Doubles Championship in July, was as good as advertised in his TCU debut in Waco. He won six combined matches and defeated two ITA top-75 players in singles play from Friday-Sunday.
Collectively, Jong and Maxted's victory was the Horned Frogs' 16th of the tournament and boosted TCU's record to 14-3 in matches involving other schools.
