Four Horned Frogs Advance to Semifinals of ITA Texas Regional

TCU sports a 13-1 combined record at the tournament
WACO – TCU was as dominant as ever on the second and third days of competition in the main singles and doubles draws of the ITA Texas Regional on Saturday and Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Jake Fearnley and Sebastian Gorzny each secured three singles victories to advance to Monday's semifinals. In doubles, No. 1 seed Sander Jong and Lui Maxted are semifinals bound, as the duo won a pair of 8-game pro sets.
Collectively, TCU boasts a 15-3 combined singles and doubles record three days into the tournament. The Horned Frogs are 13-1 in matches involving other opponents.
TCU is now just four victories away from sweeping the tournament's singles and doubles titles for the second straight year. Jong and Pedro Vives were crowned the doubles champion in 2021 while Juan Carlos Aguilar claimed the singles crown.
Fearnley, who is seeded fourth in the singles bracket, has been as dominant as any player across the NCAA ranks this fall. He is now 10-0 in singles play through two fall tournaments. The Scotland native has swept nine of his matches and won 20 of his 21 sets played.
He blew by Texas A&M's Rahul Dhhokia, 7-5, 6-2, on Saturday morning. Fearnley then received an automatic entry into the quarterfinals after No. 15 Olle Wallin of Texas Tech withdrew from their round of 16 match. Fearnley solidified his spot in the semifinals with a Sunday sweep of No. 13 Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi of Baylor, 7-5, 6-3.
Fearnley draws the Aggies' Pierce Rollins in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. CT on Monday.
Gorzny earned arguably the biggest win of any Horned Frog in his round of 32 match. The freshman upset No. 11 seed Raphael Perot of Texas A&M in three sets. Gorzny, who was tabbed the No. 5 on the ITA preseason newcomer rankings, fell 2-6 in set won but rallied to claim the final two frames in respective scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Because of TCU's sheer dominance in Waco, Gorzny and Jong were forced to battle one another in the round of 16. Gorzny won the first set 7-6 before Jong retired the match.
Gorzny earned his semifinals spot in full on Sunday, as he swept Texas A&M's Kenner Taylor, 6-1, 6-3.
He'll have to fend off No. 5 Finn Bass of Baylor on Monday in order to set up a possible all-TCU finale with Fearnley,
Jong bested SMU's Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, in the round of 32 to garner his fifth singles victory of the fall.
He and Maxted have lived up to their billing as the top-seeded doubles pairing in the tournament. They won 8-4 against Solano Caffarena and Anton Shepp of University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in the round of 16 on Saturday.
They were forced to play Gorzny and Pedro Vives in the quarterfinals on Sunday, after the latter pair defeated UTA's Santiago Giamichelle and Bautista Vilicich 8-2.
Jong and Maxted, the No. 3 ITA doubles team, outlasted Gorzny and Vives 8-6 in a hard-fought match.
The duo is set to face No. 5 Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz of Baylor at 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the semifinals.
