
Horned Frogs shine in wins over UIW

Ekdahl breaks school record, eight freshmen win events

FORT WORTH – The TCU swimming & diving programs started the season off strong as both teams defeated Incarnate Word. The women won 177-123 and the men defeated the Cardinals 165-135.
Highlighting the day was freshman David Ekdahl as he won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. He set the school record and notched a Zone cut on the 1-meter with a score of 363.97. On the 3-meter, his score of 370.72 puts him third on TCU's all-time records list as he earned his second Zone cut of the day.
To start the meet for the men's program, the team of Stefan Varga, Janis Silins, Piotr Sadlowski and Noah Cumby took first in the 400 medley relay. The squad swam a time of 3:21.68 to give TCU the early lead.
Milan Fabian won his first meet for TCU as he placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:34.47. Continuing the strong day for Frog freshmen was Geremia Freri as he swam a time of 1:40.21 in the 200 freestyle. Freri later picked up his second and third wins of the day in the 500 freestyle while also winning the 400 IM.
Silins picked up another win as he swam a 57.48 in the 100 breaststroke. In the 100 butterfly, Sadlowski clinched first with a time of 49.32. Rounding out the wins for the men's team was the 200 freestyle relay of Jake Litchfield, Raphael Paiva Da Lima, Cumby and Sadlowski as they finished first with a time of 1:23.99.
On the women's side, the 400 medley relay kicked things off for the Horned Frogs as the all-freshman team of Francesca Pasquino, Claire Chahbandour, Rylee Moore and Olivia Rhodes placed first with a time of 3:51.02.
Rhodes and Pasquino each won another event in their collegiate debut. Pasquino took first in the 100 back and Rhodes notched a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with times of 56.64 and 24.01, respectively.
In her third win of the day, Rhodes also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.31.
Emma Hultquist picked up her first win of the season in the 200 freestyle as she swam a time of 1:54.11. She later won the 500 freestyle for her second win of the day, edging out Incarnate Word's swimmer by just .16 of a second. In the 100 breaststroke, Sheridan Schreiber clocked a time of 1:05.12 to take first.
Rounding out the day for the women in the pool was the victorious 200 freestyle relay squad of Cassidy Coughlin, Lucia Simovicova, Serena Gould and Lisa Johnson as they earned first with a time of 1:37.77.
On the boards, Connie Deighton and Faith Harms-Zacharias both notched Zone qualifying scores on the 1-meter. Deighton won the 1-meter with a score of 277.43 and Harms-Zacharias placed second with a total of 267.22.

The Horned Frogs will travel to Miami for the FIU TYR Classic on Oct. 8-9 while also hosting UT Permian Basin on Oct. 9 at the University Recreation Center.
