OKLAHOMA CITY – Kansas State scored four unearned runs in the first and rode them to a 5-2 victory over TCU as the Wildcats forced a winner-take-all game later this afternoon. Marcelo Perez and Augie Mihlbauer pitched 5 1/3 scoreless relief innings.
The Rundown
Cole Johnson reached on a one out error and a walk followed to open the door for the Wildcats in the first. Terrence Spurlin gave Kansas State the lead with a base hit. A two out single followed by a two run double from Kamron Willman made it a 4-0 game.
TCU loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first, but only scored twice. Porter Brown raced home on a passed ball and Zach Humphreys scored on a Hunter Wolfe sacrifice fly.
Kansas State added a run in the fifth on a Cameron Thompson base hit.
The bullpens dominated the remainder of the game. Marcelo Perez pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He walked two and struck out three. Augie Mihlbauer worked a perfect top of the ninth. TCU was held to just four hits in the final eight innings.
Charles King (5-3) took the loss for TCU. He allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. King walked two and struck out three.
