The Rundown
TCU found itself in a 1-0 hole before it ever stepped to the plate. That changed quickly as the first six Horned Frogs reached. Hunter Wolfe gave TCU a 2-1 lead with a double to right. Austin Henry and Phillip Sikes followed with RBI-singles for a 4-1 lead. Luke Boyers singled in two more and Porter Brown capped the seven run inning with a base hit.
Kansas State chipped away at the lead, scoring single runs in the third and the fourth to pull within four, 7-3.
The Frogs responded with single tallies in the fourth, fifth and sixth to regain their seven run lead, 10-3. Brayden Taylor doubled home the run in the fourth. Phillip Sikes scored on a wild pitch it the fifth and Taylor picked up his second RBI with a ground out in the sixth.
The Wildcats fought back in the seventh, scoring four two out runs to make it a three run ballgame, 10-7. Augie Mihlbauer's second strikeout ended the inning with the tying run at the plate.
TCU finished off the game with a seven spot in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Wolfe lined a single down the left field line for a 12-7 lead. Two batters later, Gray Rodgers singled to center to make it a 14-7 game. Tommy Sacco ended the game with a base hit to center. An errant throw from the outfield cleared the bases as Elijah Nunez slid home for the 10-run lead.
Austin Krob started and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out two in the no-decision. Drew Hill (3-1) picked up the win in relief. He surrendered three runs on three hits, walked one and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings.
Stat of the Game:
4 – TCU will be making its fourth appearance in the Big 12 Championship game. The Horned Frogs claimed the title in 2014 and 2016 and lost in 2018.
