Luc Fomba and Alastair Gray have been eliminated from the NCAA Individual Championships
ORLANDO, Fla. – The 2020-21 TCU Men's Tennis season has come to an end as Luc Fomba and the doubles pair of Fomba and Alastair Gray were eliminated from the NCAA Division I Men's Individual Championships in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus is Orlando, Fla.
Fomba fell in three sets to No. 9 Gabriel Decamps (UCF) in the NCAA Singles Championships Round of 16: 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. He won two matches in his first-career appearance in the tournament, racking up 33 aces along the way (3.67 aces per set). He joins Cameron Norrie (2014 & 2015) and Alex Rybakov (2019) as the only Horned Frogs to have gotten to the Round of 16 in the David Roditi era.
Gray and Fomba nearly earned a break to put the match back on serve late in their second set, but an unfortunate line call sent the game to deuce and match point, won by USC's No. 10-ranked pairing of Daniel Cukierman and Riley Smith putting the final score at: 6-3, 6-4.
Fomba finishes his 2020-21 season with a career-best 24 singles victories (24-10) and a 17-11 record in doubles play for a career-best 41 combined wins in his third season in Fort Worth. He becomes just the fourth Horned Frog in program history to have reached the Round of 16 in both NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, joining Cameron Norrie (2015), Paul Robinson (1996) and David Pate (1982 & 1983).
Gray ends his fourth season at TCU with 33 combined victories and an 18-9 record in doubles play. He led the Horned Frogs with 15 dual singles victories this season, including a career-best eight wins at the No. 1 singles spot.
Both players have qualified for ITA All-America honors in both singles and doubles. They become the 27th and 28th Horned Frogs to earn All-America sections in the program's 48-year history.
