TCU split singles competition but ultimately fell to No. 29 Texas Tech
FORT WORTH –No. 50 TCU women's tennis (9-10, 3-4) suffered a 4-3 home loss at the hands of No. 29 Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs won at the top three positions in singles play but couldn't overcome losing the doubles point.
"Another tough battle by our ladies," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We had some chances in doubles that got away from us, but overall, our doubles was much better than last week. Isa [Montalvo] was also much better in singles and was right there at the end. She's getting better and better in those moments. There's nothing that will help accelerate her development more than having these moments as a freshman. Obviously, we want her to come through in those situations, but we are confident if she keeps embracing the mental process of how to handle those moments, we know the victories will come. We continue to show that we can beat anyone in the country top of the lineup. Tate was dominant today. Mercedes beat a super confident player with exceptional energy and aggressive play and Marie hung around time and time again after being down 5-7 0-3 15-40 to beat a very good player, a player that beat her 6-0, 6-1 last time out. I told the girls they're just setting everyone up for a dramatic finish. They are going to put everything they've learned from all the 4-3 matches into play now and take some top 10 opponents on with a great passion and attitude to elicit a victory. No time to sulk. We are already positively looking forward to Wednesday. Can't wait. We know our time is coming."
