Wolfe hits a grand slam in the loss
LUBBOCK, Texas - Cal Conley's lead-off home run in the 10th snapped TCU's 11 game winning streak as Texas Tech evened the series with a 6-5 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Rundown
Texas Tech opened the scoring in the first as it took advantage of a lead-off triple. Austin Krob retired the next three, but a ground out allowed the first run of the game to score.
TCU grabbed the lead in the fourth. Brayden Taylor drew a lead-off walk followed by Zach Humphreys' base hit and an error to load the bases. Hunter Wolfe jumped on the first pitch he saw for a grand slam to left and a 4-1 lead.
The Red Raiders regain the advantage with a four spot of their own in the bottom of the inning. With one on and two out, five straight hitters reached base. A hit batter made it a 4-2 ballgame. Jace Jung tied the contest with a two-run single and scored on a Cole Stilwell base hit for a 5-4 lead.
After a chance to tie the game in the fifth went by the wayside, TCU was finally able to bring home the tying run in the sixth. Tommy Sacco singled home Wolfe to make it a 5-5 ballgame.
The Frogs got the go-ahead run to third in the ninth, but a long fly ball out ended frame. Charles King and River Ridings set the side down in order to send the game to extras.
Krob allowed four runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. He fanned five and walked three. King was touched for a run on three hits. He retired the final eight batters he faced and finished his outing with seven strikeouts. Ridings (0-1) took the loss, allowing the home run in the 10th.
