TCU faces crosstown SMU, Big 12 foe Fresno State
DALLAS – The second-ranked TCU equestrian team returns to action Friday morning when it faces eighth-ranked SMU and fifth-ranked Fresno State in a doubleheader. The first meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Equestrian Center. The TCU vs. Fresno State matchup will be the only regular season contest between the two Big 12 opponents.
DIRECTOR OF EQUESTRIAN HALEY SCHOOLFIELD
"Tomorrow is going to be a great chance for our team to get back to work and prove our abilities. SMU and Fresno State are very strong opponents and the chance to compete against great riders is what makes us better and I am excited for that opportunity. The Fresno State matchup will be a big one for us because we only get one shot at them during the regular season, so we have to make it count."
ALL-TIME SERIES
TCU leads the all-time series 7-5 over SMU after a 12-6 win on Feb. 3 at Diamond Creek Ranch. The Mustangs are 4-1 when hosting TCU and the last Horned Frog win at SMU was on Sept. 24, 2015 by a score of 10-9.
The Frogs also lead the all-time series 11-8 over Fresno State. The two sides are 1-1 when competing at a neutral site with the last neutral matchup being an 11-4 win in the first round of the 2014 National Championship. Fresno State was victorious in the most recent meet in a 10-9 decision. The two sides are facing each other as Big 12 foes for the third time.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
No. 8 SMU (2-1, 2-0 ECAC) is back in action for the first time since it fell to TCU on Feb. 3. The Mustangs were scheduled to host Auburn on Feb. 12 then travel to Stillwater for a matchup with OSU on Feb. 27 but they were both cancelled.
The Mustangs had three NCEA Rider of the Month recipients for January, Devin Seek in Fences, Madigan Eppink in Flat and Megan Waldron in Horsemanship.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
No. 5 Fresno State (2-0) will be competing in its first Big 12 meet this season on Friday. The Bulldogs are 2-0 so far after a home-and-home series with UC Davis. The West Coast squad will be competing in four meets in three days when it comes to the Metroplex as it faces SMU Saturday, then takes on Oklahoma State and Baylor in a doubleheader which will be hosted by the Frogs at Diamond Creek Ranch.
Anna Bertozzi leads the Jumping Seat squad for the Bulldogs. She was named NCEA Fences Rider of the Month on Wednesday afternoon.
