
Clutch Performances Lead TCU Past Baylor, 3-1

Humphreys and Wolfe homer for TCU
FORT WORTH – Outstanding pitching from Russell Smith and Haylen Green along with timely hits from Zach Humphreys and Hunter Wolfe led No. 12 TCU to a 3-1 victory over Baylor Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Humphreys drove in two with a triple and a home run in the contest.
The Rundown
Russell Smith (4-1) was outstanding in making his second straight Friday night start. After allowing a lead-off single in the game, the lefty retired 13 straight batters to get the game into the fifth inning. He ultimately retired the side in order in four of his career-high 6 2/3 innings on the mound. Smith allowed four hits and fanned seven in the contest.
TCU opened the scoring in the sixth. Phillip Sikes singled with one out and Zach Humphreys delivered a two-out triple to give TCU the 1-0 lead.
Hunter Wolfe gave the Frogs breathing room, 2-0, with a lead-off home run in the seventh.
Baylor cut the deficit in half in the eighth, taking advantage of two TCU errors to score its lone run of the contest. Haylen Green, who came on in relief in the seventh, minimized the damage with a ground ball to second to end the inning with the tying run on second.
Humphreys restored TCU's two run advantage with a two-out solo home run in the eighth. Green retired the side in order in the ninth to lock up his fourth save of the season.
