Frogs Advance to Quarterfinals with 75-72 Win Over KU

TCU moves onto Big 12 Quarterfinals for the third time in program history.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The TCU Horned Frogs had a pair of 20-point scorers, erased an early 11-point deficit and advanced to the next round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with a 75-72 win over the Kansas Jayhawks, Thursday evening at Municipal Auditorium.
Senior Lauren Heard scored 26 points, with 13 of those coming from the free throw line. Sophomore Tavy Diggs scored a career-high 20 points and junior Yummy Morris chipped in with 15 points. Morris and Heard each pulled down eight rebounds on the night.
TURNING POINT
After trailing by 11 points late in the first quarter, TCU stormed back to tie the game at halftime, 36-36. The Horned Frogs defense limited KU to just a 25 percent shooting effort in the third quarter en route to a 57-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Frogs led by as many as 16 points, up 68-52 following an 11-0 run to open the frame, but KU countered with a 6-0 run and then following Caroline Germond's three-pointer at the 6:00 mark, TCU saw its then 13-point lead dwindle to just a one-point advantage, up 71-70 with 2:26 to play. Heard managed to drain three of her four attempts from the free throw line over the next minute-plus and Aahliyah Jackson helped seal the win with a free throw with just 0.5 seconds left on the clock.

• Heard's 26 points rank as the second-most points scored in a Big 12 Tournament game. Only Zahna Medley's 32-point effort against West Virginia back on March 8, 2014, ranks higher.
• Heard and Diggs became just the third and fourth player at TCU to score at least 20 points in a Big 12 Tournament contest.
