LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU Volleyball fell short to Texas Tech in three sets on Friday night inside United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. Eight Red Raider aces proved to be the difference as TTU claimed the first of a two-match series this weekend.
"Our serving game was not where it needed to be tonight, and neither was our passing," head coach Jill Kramer said. "We are looking forward to cleaning up our first contacts tomorrow night as well as another opportunity to compete."
TCU NOTABLES:
Set 1 (TTU, 25-18): Taylor Raiola got off to a hot start, making three kills on her first six swings to push the Frogs in front, 7-3. But Texas Tech's service game turned the tide as a pair of aces fueled a 4-1 TTU run later on in the set to put the Raiders in front, 11-9. TCU tied the score again, 17-17, before TTU went on a 6-0 run, including a third ace, to put the score out of reach. Raiola led the offense with five kills. Dennison led the back row with five digs and Myers teamed up with Afedo Manyang for a pair of blocks.
Set 2 (TTU, 25-23): The second set was a back-and-forth affair with 16 ties and four lead changes. Both sides were evenly matched with neither side leading by more than three points throughout. The difference in the set came down to the service line as TCU made a service error to give TTU a set point, 24-23, and Tech took advantage, service an ace on the next point to take the second set. Nichols spread the ball around well as seven Horned Frogs recorded kills, led by five from Raiola. Dennison paced the back row again with six digs.
Set 3 (TTU, 25-22): The Horned Frogs went on a 6-1 run to erase an early deficit and take the lead, 8-6, but Texas Tech managed to get aces at inopportune times for TCU, making two in a late 6-2 scoring run to go in front, 20-16. TCU battled back to cut the lead to one point, 21-20, but the Raider took the next three points and would go on to win the set by three. Audrey Nalls led the TCU attack with four kills in the final set. Raiola stepped up defensively with seven digs.
