
TCU Advances To Semifinals In PKs

ROUND ROCK, Texas – No. 7 TCU and Iowa State played to a 0-0 double overtime tie Sunday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. TCU advanced to the semifinals, wining 3-2 in penalty kicks. The shutout was the 11th of the season for the Horned Frogs, setting a school record. Additionally, Lauren Kellett made just one save for her school-record ninth shutout of the year.
The Rundown
TCU dominated the possession game but a packed Iowa State back line made it difficult to create scoring chances. The Horned Frogs outshot the Cyclones 6-2 in the frame. Jenna Winebrenner had an early chance with a header off a Grace Collins corner kick, but it went right into the waiting hands of the Cyclone keeper.
Camryn Lancaster and Skylar Heinrich were flying in the second half. Lancaster's bid in the 69th minute was blocked, while Heinrich's shot through traffic was saved. Grace Collins had a fantastic look go just wide of the far post in the final minute of regulation.
The overtimes played out similarly to regulation as TCU outshot Iowa State 8-2. Marz Akins had a pair of looks off of corner kicks that wouldn't go in. Lauren Kellett made her lone save of the match in the second overtime on a shot from distance.
In the shootout, both shooters missed in the first round. It was tied 2-2 after three rounds. Iowa State missed in the fourth round and its goalkeeper made a stop to keep it 2-2 after four rounds. The Iowa State shooter missed to lead off the fifth round and Brandi Peterson converted to send the Frogs to the semifinals.

I'm proud of our group for staying with it and seeing the game out the way we did. I thought we played well. We weren't able to find the goal, but we created some good chances. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and prepare us for the rest of the tournament."
