Alvarado records 14th career shutout
WACO, Texas – TCU fired off 26 shots in the match, but couldn't find the back of the net in playing to a 0-0 double overtime tie at Baylor on Friday night. In making four saves, Emily Alvarado posted her 14th career shutout.
The Rundown
TCU hit the gas pedal in the first half and peppered the goal with 12 shots, four of which found their way on goal. The Horned Frogs were buzzing early as Michelle Slater set up Grace Collins and Maddy Warren with good looks on goal.
The Frogs had two solid looks, forcing the Baylor keeper into a pair of difficult saves. In the 27th minute, Warren made a perfect feed to Collins, but the keeper made the point blank save to keep it scoreless. With just seconds left in the half, Yazmeen Ryan ripped a low shot through traffic that was stopped just before it crossed the goal line.
It was much the same in the second half with the Frogs carry the bulk of the play. Alvarado made an early save in the half, but from there it was all TCU. Ryan once again had the Frogs' best look in the half as she made a bid to score on the near post. The keeper got over just in time to make the save.
Both overtimes saw chances for both sides. Olivia Hasler and Warren had looks in the first minute of overtime. Gracie Brian had the best look in the second overtime with a turnaround shot from inside the 18 that was blocked by a Baylor defender.
Stat of the Game
26 – TCU outshot Baylor 26-9 in the contest, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
Game assessment
"I'm really proud of the group. It's like college football. You practice, practice, intersquad scrimmage and you don't play anybody until your first game. To come out and play the way we played with our group, it was pretty darn good. I thought the level was quite high. They did the things that we asked them to do. We created a lot of chances and unfortunately we weren't able to finish them. We didn't give up a whole lot and we did a whole lot on the attack to create some goal-scoring opportunities.
"I'm happy with our group. They battled and they fought. This is a tough place to play. Traditionally we haven't played well here, but we came out tonight. We were out on our front foot for most of the game."
