NCAA B Cuts
Janis Silins notched his third NCAA B cut of the season in the 100 breast (54.22) in College Station. The sophomore also earned an NCAA B cut in the 100 breast after clocking a season-best 54.10 en route to a first-place finish at Missouri. His second cut came at SMU (54.25).
The Valmiera, Latvia native owns both breaststroke school records. Last season, Silins' 100 breast time (52.83) at the conference meet broke Ford Story's Big 12 Championship time from 2016. Silins' 200 breast mark (1:54.63) bested former TCU great and Olympian Edgar Crespo's record from 2012 that won a Conference USA title.
Fellow sophomore Piotr Sadlowski also notched an NCAA B cut against the Tigers. The Polish pistol finished the 100 fly in 47.34. During the 2019-20 season, Sadlowski collected two B cuts in the 100 and 200 fly en route to setting the 100 fly school record.
NCAA Zone Cuts
Both Izzy Ashdown (305.40) and Connie Deighton (265.28) registered zone qualifying scores on 1-meter at Texas A&M. Ashdown's season-best score marked her second zone cut of the season. Ashdown collected her first NCAA Zone cut of the season on 1-meter in Dallas with a score of 268.35.
Program Breakthrough
TCU's women's swimming and diving team notched its first win over SMU in program history with a 175-120 victory at the Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center.
The Horned Frog women took first, second and third in four different events (100 + 200 back, 100 + 200 breast).
Ashleen O'Brien won both the 100 back and 100 fly. The UC Davis transfer swam a collegiate-best 54.52 and now sits at second on TCU's all-time records in the 100 back.
Freshman Mary Jania took both the 100 and 200 breast, cracking TCU's top-10 in both. Jania's 1:03.57 in the 100 breast places her fourth all-time while her 2:16.41 puts her at eighth.
Dusan Babic swam away with the 500 free (4:30.46) with the next closest swimmer finishing over three second behind him. The sophomore also won the 200 free (1:39.23).
Sadlowski recorded three wins in individual events between the 100 fly (48.12) and 50 (20.52) and 100 free (44.87).
Three in a Row
Emma Hultquist won the 100 free for the third time in as many meets. She adds Texas A&M to complete the trio with SMU and Kansas. So far this season, she has five wins in four meets.
In the 2020-21 season opener at Missouri, the sophomore nearly took the women's 200 free, placing second by just 0.09 seconds. Her mark (1:48.88) placed her fifth in TCU's record book.
Silins remains undefeated (3-0) in the 2020-21 campaign in the 100 breast.
Back-To-Back
TCU's Polish pistol, Piotr Sadlowski, won his second straight race in the 100 fly (47.51). Sadlowski recorded three wins in individual events between the 100 fly (48.12) and 50 (20.52) and 100 free (44.87) at SMU.
Record Watch
Charlie Brennig was less than a second away from breaking TCU's school record in the 1000 free at SMU, clocking a 9:16.22. The freshman looks to break Michael Franz's time of 9:15.77 from 2012.
The Series
The Seminoles and Frogs last and only meeting came in 1991 with Florida State's men claiming victory, 66-47. TCU's women have never squared off against FSU.
