Series Quick Hits
- TCU is playing its home opener at its new home venue, the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
- This Thursday will be the second match TCU Volleyball has played in this venue. TCU played Hawaii in what was then called the Daniel–Meyer Coliseum on Nov. 13, 1999. Head Coach Jill Kramer led the team with eight kills and 12 digs in the three-set match.
- The Horned Frogs are 11-7 against Texas Tech in regular season conference matches since joining the Big 12 in 2012. The teams split the series last season with both teams claiming five-set victories on the road.
- Junior Katie Clark had her best offensive performance to-date against Texas Tech in Lubbock last season.
- She posted a career-best 21 kills on 46 swings playing on the right side. She followed that with 13 kills on 30 swings to go along with six block assists in the home match later in the season, playing in the middle.
- Clark is averaging 3.41 kills/set in her career against the Red Raiders, nearly a full k/s better than her career total of 2.57 against all opponents. She was the main offensive threat for TCU last weekend in Waco, leading the team with 16 kills in six sets.
- Katie Clark enters the weekend one kill shy of 500 career kills. Her 499 career kills are the most on the active roster.
- Sophomore setter McKenzie Nichols enjoyed her matches against TTU last season - posting both of her career 50+ assist matches against Tech (59 and 54). Her 59 assists against Tech were the sixth most assists by a freshman in a single match in program history, and the most recorded by a TCU freshman in the 25-point set, rally scoring era.
- Sophomore Afedo Manyang played in only one match against Texas Tech last season, posting 10 kills on .444 hitting as well as 5 blocks (1 solo, 4 assisted). It was tied the most blocks she recorded in a conference match last season and the second-best kill total and hitting % in Big 12 matches throughout her freshman season.
- Freshman Kate Georgiades had a breakout performance last weekend. She started the first two matches of her collegiate career and delivered her first career double-digit dig match on Saturday against Baylor.
- She is currently second on the team with 2.83 digs/set, behind senior libero Dani Dennison who has 3.33 digs/set.
Radical Returners
- The Horned Frogs return six of the seven starters, including libero, that started the NIVC semifinal match last season.
- All-Big 12 selections, Katie Clark (second team) and Julia Adams (rookie team) are each back for their junior and sophomore season respectively.
The Horned Frogs return 2019 statistical leaders in each of the following categories:
- Kills (289) & Blocks (99.0) - Katie Clark
- Assists (869) & Double-Doubles (9) - McKenzie Nichols
- Digs (308) - Dani Dennison
- Attack Percentage (.244) - Sarah Swanson
- Blocks/set (0.95) - Afedo Manyang
- Aces (22) - Berklie Baker
- The Horned Frogs return 76 percent of their kills from last year's squad, the second highest total in the conference.
- They bring back all three of their 200+ kill performers: Clark, Adams and Audrey Nalls. No other team in the conference brings back all of their student-athletes with 200+ kills and only Iowa State returns more than three.
Scouting the Opponent: Texas Tech
- Texas Tech has split both of its series this season. The first, at home against West Virginia and again, at Iowa State, last weekend.
- While the Raiders boast one of the top terminators in the conference, they've had a hard time finding kills at times. They lead the conference in opponent digs/set with 16.06.
- The aforementioned kills leader has been senior middle blocker Allison Bloss. Bloss ranks second in the league in hitting percentage, posting 32 kills on 62 swings with just four errors, for a .452 hitting percentage. High hitting is nothing new for Bloss as she has hit over .250 in all three of her previous seasons.
- One of the strongest areas for Texas Tech lies in the senior libero, Emerson Solano. Solano leads the Big 12 through two weekends with 4.53 digs/set. She has averaged over four digs/set in each of her last two seasons and enters play with a very strong 1,138 career digs.
- The all-time series between TCU and Texas Tech is tied, 11-11. The teams split both matches last season with both matches going to the full five sets.
