WACO, Texas -- TCU volleyball faced a difficult opening night test. The Horned Frogs opened the season, on the road, against the second-ranked team in the country and didn't back down, fighting hard before ultimately falling, 3-0 to Baylor on Friday evening inside the Ferrell Center, in Waco.
"We're thankful that we've been given the opportunity to compete and appreciate all of the effort that so many people have put in to make that happen," Head Coach Jill Kramer said. "Although we didn't get the result we wanted tonight, we get another crack at Baylor tomorrow."
TCU NOTABLES:
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (BU, 25-19): Baylor played like a team with a weekend of matches under its belt early in the opening set, taking advantage of some passing miscues to jump ahead, 9-4 and force an early Kramer timeout. The Horned Frogs showed they could swing with the Bears from then on, but BU maintained its early edge to get a six-point set victory. Clark headlined the offensive approach for TCU, posting a match-leading seven kills on 11 attacks.
Set 2 (BU, 25-19): The Horned Frogs took it to the Bears in the early goings of what would be a hotly contested set. Long rallies were the norm as both sides battled for every ball. TCU got the better of those rallies at the start, going on a 5-0 run to surge in front, 6-4. But the bounces slowly started favoring the home team as the set progressed and BU won seven of the final eight points to gain a two-set advantage. In all there were eight tie scores and four lead changes in the closest set of the match. Manyang led the team with four kills on .800 hitting. Georgiades paced the team with five digs as her defensive effort aided the Horned Frogs in extending rallies to win points.
Set 3 (BU, 25-14): The Bears took advantage of some unforced errors to go on an extended run in the middle of the set. They would take the set by 11 points. Clark's three kills led the way while Dennison collected seven digs in the back row.
