Broussard comes to TCU after six seasons with UCLA
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU head men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon has hired Duane Broussard as an assistant coach.
"Duane has a long history in college basketball and has been around a lot of talented players and coaches," said Dixon. "He's a person of high character and is well respected throughout the coaching profession. I'm really excited to have Duane and his family join us at TCU."
Broussard just finished his sixth season as an assistant coach at UCLA under Steve Alford and was elevated to the role of associate head coach in Oct. 2017. In six seasons, he guided the Bruins to four NCAA Tournaments (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018) and three Sweet 16 appearances (2014, 2015, 2017). His work on the recruiting trail has seen the Bruins secure four incoming classes that have been ranked in the top five, nationally, over the past five years.
As UCLA's associate head coach in 2017-18, Broussard guided the Bruins to a 21-12 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the Pac-12 Conference. UCLA finished its season with an appearance in the Pac-12 Tournament's semifinal round before playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Through his first five seasons in Westwood, Broussard helped UCLA send 13 players to the NBA – Jordan Adams, Kyle Anderson, Ike Anigbogu, Lonzo Ball, Jonah Bolden, Aaron Holiday, Zach LaVine, TJ Leaf, Kevon Looney, Norman Powell, David Wear, Travis Wear and Thomas Welsh.
Prior to arriving in Westwood, Broussard spent the previous 10 seasons on the men's basketball staff at New Mexico. He worked the first five years under head coach Ritchie McKay and the final five years under Alford, the last two years as an assistant coach.
During his final two seasons at New Mexico, Broussard helped the Lobos compile a 57-13 record and win back-to-back Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles. New Mexico advanced to the NCAA Tournament both years. In his five years on Alford's staff at New Mexico, the Lobos played in the postseason each year, advancing to the NCAA Tournament three times.
During his tenure as an assistant coach at New Mexico, Broussard was responsible for four NBA Draft selections, all chosen in the first round – Danny Granger (2005), J.R. Giddens (2008), Darington Hobson (2010) and Tony Snell (2013).
Prior to New Mexico, Broussard spent nine seasons at Bradley, working as an assistant coach for the final six years under head coach Jim Molinari.
A four-year basketball letterwinner at Bradley (1990-93), Broussard served as the program's co-captain during his junior and senior seasons.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Broussard graduated from Bradley in 1993, earning degrees in criminal justice and sociology, in addition to a minor in history. He continued his education by earning a master's degree in public service administration from Bradley in 1997.
