TCU Drops Home Finale

The Horned Frogs battled hard in singles but fell to Oklahoma, 5-2.
FORT WORTH, Texas – A comeback effort in singles action proved not to be enough as the TCU women's tennis team dropped its home finale to No. 30 Oklahoma, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
The Sooners (16-7, 5-4 Big 12) quickly took a 1-0 lead in the match as they grabbed the doubles point over the Horned Frogs (12-9, 4-5 Big 12). The team did not back down from the challenge as they battled back in singles action. Freshman Kate Paulus got TCU on the board by holding on at court three for a three-set victory over Jasmine Asghar.
While the Frogs continued to battle, Oklahoma proved to have the momentum to close it out as the Sooners took wins on courts five, two and four to clinch the overall match victory. After the match was decided, No. 60 Ellie Douglas picked up another ranked victory on the season as the freshman took down No. 22 Oleksandra Korashvil, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5), on court one.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"I was really impressed with how Ellie (Douglas) bounced back today against a very good player. We all know how depleting Friday's match was for her and for her to come back today feeling tired and sore and being strong enough to take down such a quality opponent is just real impressive and she should be proud of herself for her resiliency and determination the last 48 hours.
"We have four days to get ready for the Big 12 tournament. Last year I didn't think we were that confident going into the tournament because there were some teams we just flat out couldn't hang with. But this year, I feel as if our girls improved this week a little. We have a doubles lineup and singles lineup that presents major problems to any and all of the Big 12 teams. I truly feel like we can win the tournament and I hope the girls do to. Are we the favorites? By no means, but have we proven we are very close to getting four points against all of these teams? Yes. It's now or never for our NCAA chances. We had the table set this weekend and didn't perform anywhere close to where we did when we were on the road. That's how it goes sometimes. Perhaps being on the road this week our team will focus better and elevate as a whole unit. I'm hopeful we will."
