TCU fell to No. 11 Oklahoma State on Friday night, 6-1.
FORT WORTH, Texas – In front of the largest crowd of the season, the TCU women's tennis team battled hard but fell to No. 11 Oklahoma State, 6-1, on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (12-8, 4-4 Big 12) struck first in doubles action against the Cowgirls (17-6, 7-1 Big 12) as the No. 40 pairing of Aleksa Cveticanin and Ellie Douglas scored the quick 6-2 victory over the No. 24 ranked pair of Sofia Blanco and Catherine Guilhur. Oklahoma State responded with a win on court two with the decider on court three headed to a tiebreaker. The Cowgirls were able to run out to an early lead and never looked back as they took the final court and the early 1-0 lead.
TCU continued to battle in singles action as Chloe Hule earned the only point for the Frogs with a 7-6(0), 6-4 win on court five. Oklahoma State proved to be too much on the other courts as the Cowgirls took four of the matches in straight sets before finishing off the match with a three-set win on court one.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"Thanks to everyone who came out tonight. We had a great crowd and a fun atmosphere for a college tennis match. Unfortunately we lost a tight doubles match and then our performance in singles was not in the direction I thought we were trending. That's a match we expected to win at home and it is just frustrating we couldn't bring a better level. Sometimes with high expectations for matches, attention to details get lost and the mind gets consumed with things not that important. We had several courts where the physical effort was there, but attention to details within our system was just not there. We will keep learning to manage our emotions better so that we can play at a higher level.
"Quality opponents like Oklahoma State can't be beat with just tennis shots and hustling. You have to play the right way at the right time and really trust your strengths and routines under pressure. Chloe (Hule) didn't play that well, but she managed her match well and that's why she won. We have a top-30 team on our home court on Sunday and I expect a great effort from our girls. We will hopefully end the weekend more positively than we did tonight and head into the conference tournament with some confidence."
