
Pitching Dominates As TCU Wins

Lodolo and Perez combine for win
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The pitching duo of Nick Lodolo and Marcelo Perez combined to shutdown Long Beach State as No. 20 TCU opened up the series with a 4-1 win on Friday night. Jake Guenther and Johnny Rizer each tallied two hits to lead the offense.
The Rundown
Nick Lodolo (2-2) held the Dirtbags in check for most of his seven innings on the mound. He retired the side in order three times and only faced more than four batters in an inning once. Lodolo finished the game allowing an unearned run on three hits. He walked one and struck out eight.
Marcelo Perez picked up his second save of the season. The freshman recorded four of his six outs via the strikeout. He allowed just one base runner in two innings.
The Horned Frogs tallied just enough runs to scratch out the victory. TCU opened up the scoring in the second inning. Johnny Rizer worked a lead-off walk. A pair of wild pitches around a groundout allowed Rizer to race home for the 1-0 lead.
TCU stretched its lead to 3-0 with a pair of two-out runs in the fifth. Hunter Wolfe singled with one out and was standing on third with two outs after two wild pitches. Alex Isola delivered a single to make it a 2-0 game. An error allowed the second run to score.
The Dirtbags took advantage of a TCU error in the bottom of the inning to get a run back, but Lodolo picked up his sixth strikeout of the game to end the frame without any further damage.
TCU picked up an insurance run in the ninth. Porter Brown hustled his way to a double with one out and scored on a two-out wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.
