Watson collects 200th career hit
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State put up a trio of big innings to even the series with a 14-3 win over TCU on Saturday night. In the loss, Josh Watson tallied his 200thcareer hit.
The Rundown
TCU had a chance to get on the board first with a pair of two out hits in the first. Alex Isola lined a single to right. A Jake Guenther double followed, but the Dirtbags got out of the jam without a run scoring.
In the second, a lead-off double spurred the offensive charge as nine Dirtbags came to the plate. The big blow in the frame was a bases-loaded triple from Jake Vander Wal to make it a 5-0 game.
The Dirtbags sent 11 men to the plate and score five more times in the third. A two-run double from Tanner Carlson extended the lead to seven. A pair of bases loaded walks and an infield single with two outs made it a 10-0 ballgame. Long Beach State added three runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to account for its run total.
TCU finally broke through in the eighth with a trio of runs. Walks to Josh Watson and Isola to open the inning set the table. Bobby Goodloe ripped a double to right field to drive in both runners. A wild pitch allowed Goodloe to score.
Jake Eissler (2-1) took the loss in his first start of the season.
